The Cost of Freedom
Maidan Nezalezhnosti from above: hundreds of thousands with flags during the Revolution of Dignity, December 2013
Independent pro-democracy organization

Freedom is notgiven freely. It is won.

We know the cost of freedom — and we defend it.

Principle

What they want to hide, we bring to light

Behind every instance of forgetting, lying, and impunity stands someone’s choice. We make that choice visible.

Areas

Four areas, one goal: to keep people free

Freedom is rarely taken all at once. It erodes gradually — through rewritten memory, violated rights, and hidden abuses. We work where it begins.

Historical Memory

We document what happened and preserve the memory of those who resisted.

Human Rights

We stand for democracy where others prefer silence. We speak where speaking is uncomfortable.

Anti-Corruption

We make visible what authorities would prefer to keep in the shadows, and hold them accountable where accountability has been avoided.

Equality

We work to ensure that rights and dignity belong to all equally, not as a privilege.

Memory

Freedom
has names

Every right we have today was once paid for by someone.
